4 YEARS IN SERBIA–EVERYTHING EXCEPT THE SEA–THE BELGRADE DIARY
At first sight the towns and villages in the north of Serbia with their pretty Vojvodina houses and the onion towers are more attractive than the cities in the south.
But you can discover beautiful places all over Serbia. Maybe the towns of the south are a little bit less glamorous. But they combine old and new architecture of different cultures. And the nature in the south is definitely more spectacular than the flat hills of Fruška Gora.
Some regions, especially in the south, look quite poor and I think they are.
Farming is very important in Serbia. Even some towns are named like fruit or nuts: Jagodina (strawberry), Jabuka (apple), Orašac (walnut), Lešnica (hazelnut), Ostružnica (dewberry) and Kruševac (pear), for example.
Auf den ersten Blick erscheinen die Städte und Dörfer im Norden Serbiens mit ihren hübschen Vojvodina-Häuschen und den Zwiebeltürmen attraktiver als die Städte im Süden. Aber man kann überall in Serbien schöne Orte entdecken. Die Städte im Süden sind vielleicht weniger glamourös. Aber sie vereinen die alte und neue Architektur unterschiedlicher Kulturen. Und die Natur im Süden ist definitiv spektakulärer als die flachen Hügel der Fruška Gora. Einige Regionen, besonders im Süden, sehen ziemlich arm aus und das sind sie vermutlich auch. Landwirtschaft ist sehr wichtig in Serbien. Es sind sogar einige Städte nach Früchten oder Nüssen benannt: Jagodina (Erdbeere), Jabuka (Apfel), Orašac (Walnuss ), Lešnica (Haselnuss ), Ostružnica (Kratzbeere) and Kruševac (Birne), zum Beispiel.
